Platform Development Strategies
An Introduction to Electronic Systems Development in the Age of AI, Agile Development, and Organizational Change
About the Author
Tobias Münch studied telecommunication electronics at the Technical University
of Darmstadt, Germany. After finishing his diploma, he started his professional
career in the automotive industry, where he worked as a DSP engineer, system architect and chief engineer for head units and amplifiers for several major car manufacturers in Europe, North America, and Asia. Throughout his career, he has applied agile development methods across the span of predevelopment, platform development, and product development projects. Münch has always had structural, societal, and technical change in mind to create technology and system development solutions that anticipate the future and have long-term validity for B2B and eventually B2C customers. As engineering director he managed several horizontal and vertical international teams through changes in the automotive industry, which was becoming increasingly driven by software, connectivity, and consumer electronics. Furthermore, he was requested to share his knowledge and insights in several company internal university courses and at industry-wide conferences. Münch decided to move into the consumer industry to apply his automotive knowledge regarding software, connectivity, and embedded systems and become more experienced in other industries. He currently holds the position of Head of Audio and Embedded Platforms.
About the Book
This book provides readers with a hands-on guide to system architecture design and platform development strategies for electronic systems. While system architecture design is a sub topic of systems engineering, the author discusses platform development as a matter of strategy, engineering efficiency and quality. This book helps readers by combining system architecture and platform development in a defined way, discussing processes and consequences in the context of the newest developments in technology, processes and management, such as artificial intelligence, agile development, and organizational change.
About the Reader
This book covers a wide range of topics and could be of interest for anybody working in electronics product development. People at an architecture level might find this book useful and find certain aspects to complete their picture of developing systems efficiently. If somebody is new in the business or wants to step up from being a software or hardware architect to become a system architect, then he or she may find this book useful to obtain the full picture and a good understanding. This book is also for managers leading architecture and development departments, or for directors setting up a whole engineering department. My aim is to help them to create the ideal structure in their company and to ensure the development is as efficient as possible – and this, of course, will result in a cost-optimized approach: Make more with less money!
